Waking
Up to Wildlife
From
July 16th to 31st events will be held on LNRs around the country to
encourage more people to explore and enjoy LNRs and to show them how
getting close to wildlife can be good for both your physical and mental
wellbeing.
The celebrations will be marked with a major event at Shire Brook Valley
LNR in Sheffield on Sunday 17th July. Surrounded by five towns, Shire
Brook Valley is a fantastic green oasis with woodlands, ancient hedgerows
and meadows, lowland heathland, ponds and marshland.
Fitness guru Mr Motivator will lead a Wild Workout on the reserve and
Nick will take visitors on a Wildlife Safari where they can have a
hands-on experience with some of the reserve's creatures. Visitors to
Shire Brook Valley may be able to catch a glimpse of the water voles,
harvest mice, great crested newts and badgers that live there, or could
even come face to face with the highland cattle that graze on the site
during the summer months.
There will also be a chance for children and adults to take part in
sporting activities, arts and crafts.
More details of this event and the many others being held around the
country during these celebrations will be available at
www.english-nature.org.uk soon.
